About The Race Roster Spring Run-Off
This spring runoff is one of Toronto’s oldest annual events. Traditionally the Beaches Spring Sprint and the Race Roster Spring Run-Off have been kicking off the season in the Greater Toronto Area.
The race features an extremely challenging and rewarding course which runs through High Park.
Toronto has always been a running city and you will never be short of competition at this race. There is always a strong presence of top tier, elite runners and there are lots of medals, t-shirt giveaways, live entertainment and even maple syrup prizing and a pancake breakfast.
This has always been one of the most popular family friendly events in Toronto which is full of rich traditions and wholesome family fun.
If you are more interested in the race then you are in for a good one.
The Roster Spring Run-Off has been taking place in High Park for the past 36-37 years and is a fun spirited race which offers a great atmosphere that combines novice runners looking for their first races, a new challenge to propel them forward and a chance to run alongside some of the more experienced veterans.
On the other hand if you are a seasoned runner this race is a great one to mix and mingle with the running community and provide support and guidance to some of the newer runners out there.
The race typically happens around the same time as the cherry blossoms are just starting to come out of their winter hiding which can be quite the spectacular sight to see.
This race is divided into two different races. There is a 5k and an 8k route which are both located within High Park. One of the great aspects of having the race in High Park is the lack of traffic so you can focus on running instead of obstacles.
The 5k race
Starts on west road. The terrain is mostly flat and is great for newer runners. If you are racing with your family be sure to stay back at the beginning and let the faster paced runners go ahead.
The race will finish around the bloor street entrance at the north end of the park. For those who have done this race before you will know where the finish line is
The 8k race
The 8k starts near the swimming pool on Colborne Lodge Drive. The 8k is mostly flat terrain but there are two rather large hills and a couple downhill portions. Be sure to factor these uphill and downhill portions when setting your pace.
- Make sure you do hill training before you do this race since there are extremely steep hills right before the finish line.
- The park will be closed to vehicles on race day so a wiser choice would be to either take the subway or if you are driving look up parking lots in the area ahead of time. Since it will be a very busy day make sure you arrive early especially if you are driving.
