When it comes to running, Adidas is where it’s at
Running shoes are generally very hard to pick becuase each individual person has a different running routine, pattern and feet. Because of this generalizing the “best shoe” is not easy nor accurate for most but the chances are that with Adidas you won’t go wrong.
There are two reasons Adidas is a great choice for running shoes. The first one is that they make quality shoes. They make sure that any shoe they launch is made of nothing but the best materials and unlike some other brands they actually put their shoes through pretty detailed testing.
The second reason Adidas is a good fit for almost anybody is because they just have so many different options. Adidas is not a one trick pony but rather a 1 brand circus. Just when you think they can’t get any better or they are losing market share, they end up launching a product which blows the competition out of the water.
Whether you are a flat-footed runner, an under pronator or anything in between Adidas has the advantage of being around longer than most of us and has likely made a shoe that is perfect for you.
Here at TorontoRunning.com we endorse natural or “barefoot running” and through testing many different types, brands and models of shoes we have found that over time making the transition to the most minimalist of shoes gives your body the best tool to stay in shape and make exponential gains in time, endurance, speed and overall enjoyment.
Though barefoot running is great for more experienced runners if you are a beginner you need to start slow. Get a shoe with a bit of a heel on it and some cushioning or shock absorption features. Not too much but enough so that you don’t injure yourself
The transition to natural or barefoot running is something that must be done gradually and can be compared to benching 200 pounds. You need to start at 50 pounds and slowly work your way up to avoid injury.
Whether you are looking for technical trail running shoes, waterproof running shoes for the rainy seasons, long distance marathon shoes, barefoot 5k-10k shoes or any other type of shoe for that matter you can rest assured that Adidas has made one.
Now as with any other brand Adidas has made many shoes over the years and has inevitably had some shoes that just don’t quite live up to the hype. Some are either way overpriced just because of a name like Kanye West’s new Adidas Yeezy Boost 350’s which sell for an absurd $800-$900 which can be seen in the picture below.
As with any other purchase you will need to do some due diligence yourself ahead of time. Remember that when you walk into any store it’s the salesman’s job to sell a shoe to you that day. Do not believe them when they put on a show by getting you to walk 5 steps and telling you that you have a flat foot or need extra cushioning that only the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350’s can provide.
You know your self, your feet and what you find comfortable more than anybody else. Though that doesn’t mean that listening to people is a bad idea at all. Just make sure the people are unbiased as opposed to a clearly biased shoe salesman.
I always believed in going into a store and trying the shoe on but now days whenever I am looking for a new pair of kicks I head over to Amazon.com and first narrow down my search. I look at all the shoes they offer in my category, then I start to narrow them down by price.
After that I choose the 3 best running shoes that seem like they would suit me very well in terms of support, shape and style. When I have narrowed it down to the top 3 contenders I then get to digging.
The most important thing that Amazon has brought to the table is the fact that you are able to read unbiased verified user reviews. With a company as large as Adidas you can bet that you will have at least 100 reviews from people of all walks of life.
After spending time to narrow down your previous 3 top picks to the top pick or two you can either make the plunge and order them since Amazon offers great return policies you will never be stuck with something you don’t like or if you really are not sure about them then a quick Google search will direct you to the nearest store so you can try them out in person.
The downside of physical stores these days is that they are just simply more expensive. They have to pay for rent, transportation, insurance, electricity, employees, payroll taxes etc. and it is hard for them to compete with online pricing.
This is why most stores now do the majority of their business online and it is no different for running shoes. So after you try on your shoes you can head back home, order them at a fraction of the cost and have them at your door within a day or two.
Just be sure when you are picking a running shoe that you take into account Toronto or wherever you are’s climates. If you are somewhere where there is snow on the ground half the year then maybe a pair of runners with some traction on the bottom will help. If you live in Miami then you can just pick the flattest most amazing pair you can find.
Below are some links to some popular shoes that I myself or friends & colleagues have found to be the best for us. And of course there is a link for you to check out the $800-900 Adidas Yeezy Boost 350’s just to see what an almost $1000 dollar shoe gets you. Just be sure to read the reviews before making any purchase so you can be sure they are going to be perfect for you.
